SWL Therapeutics was founded to translate early scientific discoveries in kidney, heart, and metabolic health into practical therapeutic programs.
Our Story
SWL Therapeutics LLC is a founder-led biomedical company created by Lei Wang, PhD, and her husband to move promising academic discoveries toward real-world therapeutic development.
Dr. Wang's scientific work as a professor at the University of South Florida has been supported by multiple NIH R01 grants and has focused on renal physiology, transplant medicine, organ injury, and mechanisms that influence long-term tissue function. SWL Therapeutics was formed to provide a focused path for translating selected discoveries from that research environment into early commercial development.
The company is currently centered on two early-stage opportunity areas. One involves a device-based approach using magnetic-field-related technology designed to support recovery and maintenance of kidney and heart health. The other involves a chemical discovery with observed biological activity relevant to diabetes and metabolic disease. Both programs remain at an early research stage and are being advanced with the goal of building strong Phase I NIH small-business grant applications.
Our near-term work is practical and disciplined: clarify mechanisms, generate reproducible preclinical evidence, evaluate feasibility, protect intellectual property, and build the foundation needed for responsible therapeutic translation.
